Mardi Gras 2001 in " TREME "
.
Super Sunday 2001 Super Sunday is one of several days that the Mardi Gras Indians "Tribes/Gangs" come together from all over the City and gather on Bayou St John and Orleans Ave., in the 6th ward for the long trek to Hunters Field a Neighborhood park in the 7th Ward, The parade is very long and has Brass Bands, Mardi Gras Indians, Social and Pleasure Clubs all with Second-liners. These parades allow the people in the Neighborhoods of the city to see nearly every tribe [ which is impossible to do on Mardi Gras ] that were on the "STREETS" for the holiday It is at these parades that you really get to see the intricate bead/sequined and stone work that go into making these elaborate costumes. The air is filled with pulsating beats on Tambourine's , drums and cow bells, primal tones and rhythmic chants from the Indians and earthy Jazz & Brass marching Bands, Playing music that won't let your " Feet " fail you now, on this Soirée' through the community. It is this rich and deep rooted culture that is the soul and Heritage of the Black communities of New Orleans. Big Chief "Rudy" 9th Ward Hunters
